Peter_bio21The Oasis Free Clinics is an integrated system of free clinics providing free medical, dental and prescription assistance to hundreds of low income, uninsured adults in the Bath-Brunswick area of Midcoast Maine. Oasis was founded in 1992 by Dr. Peter McGuire as a clinic devoted to caring for the homeless in the Tedford-Oasis Shelter, in Brunswick, Maine. By 1995, its services became so much in demand by hundreds who could not access primary health care that it split from the Shelter and opened its doors in donated space of Regional Memorial Hospital (now part of Mid Coast Hospital). Over the years, Oasis has expanded from a Tuesday night walk-in clinic to a full-time, full-service primary care practice modeled on the Patient-Centered Medical Home, a prescription assistance clinic providing close to $1mil in free medications each year, and a twice a month free dental clinic serving hundreds of people who lack access to dental care each year.

Over 80 volunteer physicians, dentists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and licensed Mental Health counselors aided by many administrative volunteers, work to provide care. Together they see over 4000 patient visits per year, all at no cost to the patient.

Dr. Peter McGuire retired as Medical Director of Oasis in 2013, and continues his association with the organization as a member of the Board of Directors.
